CMA Staff Pick: True
Hello! I’m True and I’m a gallery attendant. I make sure everyone feels welcome in the galleries. I also keep the art safe and provide information about it and the museum. I’ve spent a lot of time here with these pieces, and I love popping by with fun tidbits because I’ve picked up on so many fun facts that everyone should know!
The Undiscovered Country by Mary Evelyn Pickering De Morgan is my favorite piece in the collection. De Morgan is actually one of my all-time favorite Pre-Raphaelite artists, and it still stuns me that we have two of her pieces in our collection. This painting is about life and death — death being the undiscovered country. You can see in her face that she is confidently and serenely walking through this transition and, paraphrasing the label description of this work, she "walks away from darkness and death" and into a "beautiful, peaceful utopia."
