CMA Staff Pick: Alex Taylor
Hey y’all, I’m Alexandria (Alex) Taylor, and I work in the education & engagement department as the engagement coordinator! My role at the CMA is to support programming and the E&E team so we can engage our community in discovering art from around the world. I love fashion, being in nature, and building community in innovative ways.
My favorite piece at the museum is Portrait of a Woman. I find myself going to her when I’m having an off day and I need to get right with myself. She has this ‘let’s be real’ look on her face, and I’m like, ‘you’re right, I know who I am!’ Here is a woman of high class standing in confidence, engaged but also wearing a crescent-shaped brooch that symbolizes the moon goddess Diana. I am a fan of Roman and Greek mythology! Diana, who can be found throughout the CMA Collection, is the archetype of the knowledgeable, independent, and free-spirited woman. The woman in this piece still owns all that she is independently. She is confident and self-assuring, which in a sense empowers me to be all that I am — I just needed a moment to pull myself together, and she is that moment. To any woman reading this, I hope you get to experience a moment with her like I have!
