An Act of Worship: Building a Community Archive

10:00 am-1:00 pm
As a follow-up to March 9’s Film Screening and Talkback: An Act of Worship, the CMA hosts a unique workshop, Building a Community Archive. Led by Omme-Salma Rahemtullah, an independent media programmer and experienced archivist, this workshop is primarily for anyone who self-identifies as Muslim. Attendees share tools and information on how they can interview and learn about other community members and help archive their collective story. Through the process, this workshop aims to help participants heal from their own incidents of Islamophobia, see their stories through a lens of joy and resilience rather than trauma, and empower them to be the creators of their own stories.
Participants are asked to bring a photograph or object related to their, their family’s, or their community’s story about Muslim life in America. During the workshop, they share these pictures and objects with one another and learn how to conduct recorded interviews to preserve a piece of their community’s story and history in an archive.
Free. Registration not required.
