A generation after Canaletto, Francesco Guardi continued to paint Venetian scenes. He captured the shimmering light of Venice. This view of the entrance to the Grand Canal was a favorite location for Guardi. The Church of Santa Maria della Salute was dedicated to the Virgin to ward off the plague. Every year on November 21, The Feast of the Presentation of the Virgin, the city officials lead a procession from San Marco to the church.
