Death Ray Robin is an alt-R&B act featuring vocalist Desirée Richardson and a rotating cast of instrumentalists from Columbia, SC. Best known for her mellifluous soprano and straightforward yet poetic pop sensibilities, Richardson vacillates between genres, writing about themes of self-love, identity, revenge, forgiveness, and hope. Influenced by Regina Spektor and My Chemical Romance, Richardson’s flow from ethereal chorister to earth-shattering banshee is a spellbinding experience best witnessed in person. Being that she was a choir girl, an avid listener of pop and R&B, and an inconsolable teen in 2007, it’s not hard to understand why Richardson so comfortably stands between the worlds of “legit” singing and primal screams. Richardson is joined by keyboardist Bobby Hatfield (Numbtongue), guitarist Kirk Barnes (Opus & The Frequencies), bassist Danielle Blood (KBAR, Say Femme) and drummer Michael Crawford (MIDS, Burrito Wolf).
Music at the CMA is presented by the Baker & Baker Fund. Silver Sponsors: Nancy and Richard Layman. Patron Sponsors: Barbara Boyd; Harold and Clarke Friedman.
