An Evening with Wayne White: Beauty is Embarrassing
Emmy Award-winning artist Wayne White presents a TED-style talk following a screening of the critically-acclaimed documentary Beauty is Embarrassing, a film about White's life-work and what it means to follow your passion. Raised in the mountains of Tennessee, White started his career in New York City as a cartoonist. He quickly found success as one of the creators of Pee-wee's Playhouse, which led to more work designing some of the most iconic images in pop culture. Recently his work has been shown in museums around the country. Whether he is parading a twenty-foot tall puppet through the Tennessee hillside or relaxing in his studio pickin' his banjo, Wayne White always seems to have a youthful grin and desperate drive to create art and objects. Cash bar provided by The Whig and musical enlightenment capturing White's journey from the South to Hollywood provided by the GCSPS. Sponsored by The Palm.
