Take off for locales rich in culture and art history! Trips are organized in collaboration with the director, curators or other art experts to ensure a quality experience that meets the goal of the Columbia Museum of Art to be the gateway to cultural learning and experience. Enliven your experience and expand your knowledge of a vast array of subjects including not only art, but also music, theater, food and wine.
The Museum offers two levels of travel—Premier Society trips and General Member trips. Premier Society trips are open exclusively to members at the $500 level and above and feature exclusive access and, behind-the-scene tours. General Member trips are open to all members of the Museum and are wonderful opportunities to visit art-filled destinations.
This four-day, three-night program introduces us to the most significant public art collections in and around Boston. We will visit the Museum of Fine Arts, with its new Art of the Americas wing designed by Sir Norman Foster; the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, with its recent expansion by Renzo Piano; the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem with its international collections; and the Institute of Contemporary Art, designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro and stunningly cantilevered over Boston Harbor.
This tour will also offer experiences not available to the independent traveler, including visits to the studio of contemporary artist Shelley Reed, who will have her first retrospective at the Columbia Museum of Art in summer 2014, and others.
Boston is also a fabulous city for its performing arts. We include one performance of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and have allowed two evenings free for those who may want to relish musical performances at the acclaimed Jordan Hall or the new Calderwood Hall, or any theatrical productions.
It's all for you to enjoy at the approach to the height of New England's spectacular fall foliage season. We hope you join us!
