The Limelight is both a celebration and a declaration that Columbia is a dynamic and multi-dimensional arts center, producing artists who excel on the local, national and international levels. Ed Madden reads his essay about the late James Dickey, Kristine Hartvigsen reads about SC poet laureate Marjorie Wentworth, Ray McManus reads his take on poet Terrance Hayes, Susan Lenz reads her essay on artist mentor Stephen Chesley and Cindi Boiter reads her piece on Columbia artist Blue Sky.

This four-week lecture series highlights the use of color by artists in four major artistic movements: Rococo, Neoclassicism, Romanticism and Impressionism. Whether flirtatious and fanciful or evocative and elegiac, color plays an important role in painting for the artist as well as the viewer. Join CMA Curator Victoria Cooke as she discusses this interesting topic. Cooke studied at the University of Delaware with a focus on the history of art and architecture in Europe. She is a published author, popular speaker and has taught art history at the college level.

Chef Ryan Whittaker of 116 Espresso and Wine Bar, is bringing a French tradition to Columbia. Based on the incredible "Diner en Blanc" dinner series that is sweeping major cities around the globe, 116 Espresso and Wine Bar is excited to present their own "Dinner in White" Pop-up Picnic Series. Ryan has chosen the Columbia Museum of Art as the recipient of his generosity, $40 of the $100-per-person ticket price is donated to the CMA to support our educational mission.

The event location is kept secret until the day of. 116 provides a gourmet French "picnic" themed meal featuring local ingredients, great wine, and live entertainment. Guests supply their own dishes, silverware and glasses and wear all white.

This kick off event is designed to be a fun and fantastic way to meet new people, celebrate the arts and enjoy gourmet food and wine. Be part of the spectacle!
