Film: Chagall1:00 p.m. Film: Chagall
Completed just a month after his death in 1985, this film presents the most authoritative film biography of artist Marc Chagall. Weaving his paintings with archival footage and numerous interviews with the artist, it chronicles the long, creative arc of Chagall's life, from his birth in Czarist Russia in 1887 through almost the entirety of the 20th century. A natural Surrealist long before its theory was established, Chagall passed in and out of notoriety, both in Paris and New York. As this film shows, despite his friendship with Andre Breton and other greats, Chagall pursued his own unique artistic vision. 43 minutes.

In addition, the CMA announces the winner of the crowd-sourced fundraising initiative, “Be the Curator.” Seven art-loving volunteers each chose a piece from the Museum’s collection that is not currently on view and spent the better half of a year making pitches, through their own words and efforts, to their friends, family, and the public as to why their piece should win and be exhibited. The volunteer who raised the most money will have their piece placed on view this summer.
